I hope you enjoyed learning some pattern making techniques during the Sewing Weekender! I’ve put together some design inspiration for some skirt ideas with added volume and yokes so you can put your new skills into practise!

Design Inspiration

Rotating darts and adding flare

These designs are created by either adding volume by rotating the waist darts or adding flare to your patterns. You can see how the amount of volume or the length of the pattern paired with a variety materials can give such a different feel.

Yoke designs

Play with different yoke designs, shapes and sizes.

 
 

Straight vs curved waistband tutorial

Learn how to draft a straight and curved waistband to complete your skirt block with these free videos lessons.

 

Yokes with flare

Mix unusual yoke or seam shapes with adding volume to the bottom panels only. You can choose a light drapey fabric or one that holds the shape and structure.

Yokes with gather

Mix playing with the yoke shapes and adding other pattern making techniques such as adding gather to shaped sections of your patterns.
